Updates to 2008 LA5 (12.9.08)

To help those customers who received our update to Core 5 and also purchased Language Arts 5, we will be adjusting the material in LA5 to match the adjusted Reader schedule. We will send a full updated LA5 to those customers who purchased Core 5, LA5 and had Commodore Perry on backorder between 9/18 - 12/1/08. We hope to send out the update by end of week.

Anticipated changes to LA for 2009 [updated 12.3.08]

The 2009 Sonlight Language Arts program will include even more parent-helps than ever before. Sneak-Peek: Some of these features include even more examples, explanations of what to expect, help with grading and rubrics, more scripting—just more parents-friendly in general.

2008 Changes to LA [updated 3.24.08]

The following will apply to all levels K-6 ...

  • We will sell and use only the 5-day Reader sets
  • We will tighten the 4 Day reader schedule where the 4 day students will read extra/beyond what the 5 day kids will do. Everyone will read all the Readers. In the Core IG they will cover all the books over 4 days that the 5-day program covers in 5 days (i.e. they will have slightly longer assignments. If there are 100 pages to read in a week the 5 day kids will average 20 pages per day M-F; the 4-day kids will need to average 25 pages per day).
  • All students will read the same books each week; the 4 day students will read the books more quickly.
In the Notes section in week one of each Core IG, we will state (something like): We believe students should read daily. Hence we provide enough books for you to do so with your student(s). However, some parents choose to school using our 4 day program and require the 5th day off. Therefore, we offer you two schedules for each book. If you use the 4 day schedule, your child will read additional/more pages over the 5 day plan. If your child would like a less robust schedule, please flip the schedule and use the 5 day schedule for each book.

Does SL LA require a teacher, can it be used independently?

Production purposely differentiated LA 3 and LA 4 to signify a change in the interaction between teacher and student. LA 3 and under requires more teach help. LA 4 and older requires less teacher input and more student self direction.
