Activity Sheet pricing
First the public answer (please restate in your own words):
We price all of our products based upon many factors. Some of these factors include the time to develop, the time to research, the cost to print, and the value of the content. We review our pricing continually, and have done so with the IGs and Activity Sheets. While there is less volume of paper in the Activity Sheets, we believe the pricing is appropriate for the value and content provided.
Then, for your information only some background on pricing of Activity Sheets and IG's:
We reduced the price of the IG from $40 to $35 because they would be shorter BUT the new content would be much better. So we went down $5 (while all other IG’s increased by 3%).
The activity sheet sets were priced a bit less than last year: from $13.25 in 2006 to $10 this year. So these did not get the 3% price increase applied to all other IGs.
We do NOT want to explain our pricing in any detail to customers, except to say we are always looking to deliver the best value at the most reasonable price.
Dictation passage selection
Quick reply - Dictation doesn't match book being read added 10.5.07
The only criteria for copywork/dictation is that it not be assigned PRIOR to being read. There are certain weeks where copywork is assigned several weeks AFTER the passage was read, mainly because of scheduling changes this year.
(updated 8.17.07) - Our dictation passages are drawn from literature that the student will read throughout the year. The purpose of dictation is to both expose students to, and allow students to mimic, good writing. The fact that a dictation passage is drawn from literature your student may be reading at the time is a helpful correlation, but is not necessary to accomplish the purposes for using dictation.
Extra Dictation passages
We will mail out extra dictations for each LA IG for 2007. [Included in LA 3 - 3TL, appendix 3 already.] Extra appendixes will consist of dictations that were included in 2006 edition of LA IG's, but were removed for 2007.
Update 8.2.07 - Until extra dictations are added to the next print run of each LA IG, we will continue to email the appropriate pdf file to customers.
Update 7.18.07 - Appropriate extra dictations will be emailed to all LA IG customers since 4/1/07. These will go out on 7.20.07. The email will include the offer to snail mail a hard copy if the customer makes a request.
Update 7.31.07 - Extra dictations are now included as an appendix in each Language Arts IG. As of today, 3TL and 6TL do not yet have this appendix as there was a delay in these two IGs. Customers purchasing these two IGs prior to the next print run will receive a follow-up email with the appropriate dictation file.
LA Copywork and Handwriting Styles
Customers are sometimes concerned that the font style used in the LAK and LA1 copywork does not match what their student is learning in their chosen handwriting program. Standard response:
Handwriting styles vary greatly from program to program, and even individual interpretation will be unique. Please allow me to make a couple of suggestions if your student is struggling with the differences between the copywork assignments and the handwriting program you have chosen. 1) Simply re-write the short copywork passage using the font style your student prefers or 2) Don't have your student trace over the letters (if they are), but rather copy them to separate paper and explain that letters are sometimes written slightly different depending on who is doing the writing. Above all, I would not expect perfection at this age, but rather encourage continued practice as the student learns to recognize various font styles.
(Additional note - not necessarily for customers ... the font we use in our copywork exercises is actually a "Sonlight Standard font" which we had designed for the purpose of lower-level lettering a number of years ago.)

KTL1 error
Initially missing the vowel activity sheets, the grade K extra activity sheet sets was also missing the appendix of consumable (cut-apart) materials. As of 8.1.07, this is being corrected on all that have been shipped out and all that are in the warehouse.
8.3.07 update - Marketing is sending consumable activity page packets via snail mail to all customers who ordered KTL1 prior to the error correction. This packet will include Vowel Activity Sheets, Appendix 4, Appendix 5 and Sound Cards. If customers ask ... the Sound Cards begin on page 7. Pages 1-6 are not consumable so these are not included.
2TLA error
Week 9, Day 5: Optional Break the Code activity. The fifth word in the code should read 4-15-7 (not 4-15-10). 10.19.07
4TL error
Week 2, Day 2: Reads that Jack's letter is found in chapter two. It is actually found in chapters 2 and 3. This is crucial because the simile the student is instructed to find is in the half of the letter found in chapter 3 (nose looks like a molting chicken) 8.29.07
Week 11, Day 4: Assignment is to notice the style of the limerick in the poem "The Considerate Crocodile" on page 36 of the poetry book. This poem is not a limerick. A revised assignment will be posted on the curriculum updates page. (9.17.07)
5TL error
Week 7: Assignment covering five parts of a friendly letter. The fifth part of the letter (personal signature) is missing. An updated assignment will be posted to the curriculum updates page. (9.17.07)
Language Arts 3 Dictation is not pulled from any of the Readers. So that this level can be used with both Core 3 Regular Readers and Core 3 Advanced Readers, the dictation will be either Bible verses, poems, or famous quotes.
Dictation Procedures are found on page 1 of the Instructions and Answer Key section of the LA-IG.
K LA - KTL1 will be available online.
The additional ruled paper can be purchased if customers desire, but it is not necessary. KTL1 will have ruled pages as part of the activity sheets. One side will be 2 line, one side will be 3 line, to be similar to KL174 and KL184.
Level 2: Beginner's Bible dictation
Our first run of the 2005 LA2 IG had a reading schedule and dictation from the 1989 (old) version of the Beginner's Bible. Then we began selling the 2005 (new) version of the Beginner's Bible which did not match our 2005 LA2 IG. Customers began to complain because there were major differences. So we updated the reading schedule only and did a new print run of the 2005 LA2 IG. We did not update the dictation passages.
So ... the 2006 LA2 IG contains the correct reading schedule for the 2005 (new) Beginner's Bible, but the dictation passages have never been updated.
Numbering of LAIG activity sheets
As it says in the Introduction (or it might be the notes for Week 1), clients should just do the Activity Sheets that are assigned. They will not do all activity sheets. Numbering is NOT precise.
Some LA IG's use the activity sheets labelled 'a' for 4 day only, but some LA IG's use sequentially numbered sheets for the 4 day schedule, while the 5 day skips activity sheets. The system is NOT precise.
Over the year(s) our numbering scheme is less precise than originally intended. There are some times when we have changed an assignment and/or it's order. We have not renumbered a sheet if we stopped using it for 5 Day.
So we simply warn clients that they should do each Activity Sheet as assigned and that they will not do all.
