Grammar Songs copyright date [6.28.06]

The Grammar Songs edition Sonlight currently sells has a copyright date of 1984

with revisions in 1986, 1987, 1991, 1994

The grammar songs are LOOSELY tied to / scheduled with concepts in the activity sheets, and are not scheduled to correlate exactly with each concept studied. However, we do schedule them around the same time the concept is studied.

Foundational Grammar

Foundational Grammar description is an 18 unit kit with instructions and quick activities for several different grammar topics. The first few units are easy, but then they build on each other and become more difficult as the program goes along. For instance, the first week is nouns, the second verbs, and then later in the program (in unit 15) they do coordinating conjunctions.

There is no formal schedule, but we suggest customers take one week for each unit to make the program last half the year. They could, of course, do it at a faster (or slower) pace if that fits better. It is important that they master each unit before they move on to the next one, so they might spend a while on one section. An older student could probably work through the first few units very quickly. The kit can go with any Language Arts program spread out during the year or just by itself, or customers could do it in the summer before they start the school year if they want a refresher, or want to work on the more difficult aspects of grammar or problem areas.

++++

is appropriate for LA 2 Adv and above. The catalog (p. 129) incorrectly states, "Foundational Grammar will work as a supplement to any Language Arts program."

The product was originally designed for students coming into Sonlight's Language Arts program at LA 4 or above without the benefit of LAK-3. It's sort of a "catch up" product. I also recommend it as a nice grammar overview for whenever students are *ready* for grammar. This could be at LA 2 Advanced or LA3. I don't believe I've ever *recommended* this product for lower than LA3 (which in my mind is fairly close to LA 2 Adv.), but parents know their students best.
