LA 3 IG Errors
Research Paper Packet
LA3 does contain an abbreviated research project in weeks 12-14. Rather than including the research project packet, we simplified all of the instruction and included it in the weekly notes, so that LA3 would provide an easy introduction to doing a research project.
3TL difficulty level?
When I (Duane) sat down to write 2TL and 3TL, that's how I thought of them--just like the old 2TL and 3TL. The dictation or copywork passages at each level are supposed to be grade-level appropriate. We use "copywork" in lower levels and "dictation" in upper levels to denote that we expect children at lower levels to do more pure copying before graduating to an upper level where we expect them to take true dictation. The terminology has less to do with the difficulty of the passage (other than as it relates to being age-appropriate for whatever level it happens to be in) and more to do with the child's perceived ability (based upon level and likely age) to take dictation vs. needing to copy.
As for the new naming convention (i.e. Dictation vs copywork on the top of the activity page), I myself find it a bit confusing. To me, it speaks more to reading level, not overall Language Arts ability. But customers have to understand that something marked "Grade 3" will necessarily be less difficult than something marked "Grades 3-5." Just because they both have the number "3" in them doesn't mean they're the same difficulty. One speaks to a specific level, while the other speaks to a range of levels.
