Choosing LA & Readers

Our recommendation is to ALWAYS choose the Language Arts program that matches the child's reading ability.

How we determine Reader/Read Aloud levels

For the lower grades, we use the Flesch Scale. For the upper levels we weigh the intensity of the material, plus the amount of text, and use our "gut" feel.

Do I need a 2nd set of readers for additional students?

Typically two children can share one set of readers, unless they are doing all subjects with the same materials. Three students may have logistical trouble with sharing books. Teaching twins is different -- they are usually on exactly the same level for EVERYTHING. That means you don't want one going off to do their math while the other reads (it would just double her time in explaining the math lesson).
