California Conventions (2012)
If customers ask why we are not present at conventions in California during the 2012 convention season, here is a standard response you may use. Feel free to use as little or as much of this response as is appropriate to the situation.
Dear California-based Sonlight Curriculum Customers,
As you are likely aware, Gov Jerry Brown of California recently signed the Affiliate Nexus Tax Law (a.k.a. the Amazon law) into effect. This new tax law, AB 28 1x, greatly expands the reach of the state of California. Among other things, the new law requires online retailers to collect taxes on sales to consumers who were referred by California-based marketing affiliates even if those retailers have no physical presence in the state. In other words, if Sonlight kept Sonlight Curriculum Consultants (SCCs) in California, all Sonlight customers in California would then have to pay the sales tax on their online purchase.
Regrettably, as a result of this new law, we have withdrawn our marketing affiliate presence from California.
Even though you may not visit an SCC at a local homeschool convention, you can still get the Sonlight help you need. If you have any questions about Sonlight, from how to choose the best curriculum for your family to getting the most of the Sonlight curriculum you already have, please contact a Sonlight Curriculum Advisor at www.sonlight.com/SCA, 303.730.6292 x3 or [email protected].
We pray God's blessings in your homeschool journey.
