We find that many families enhance their homeschooling adventure with a day of music lessons, sports, field trips or other extra curricular activities. To meet the needs of these families, Sonlight developed 4-day programs. We have removed approximately 20% of the assignments from the 4-day programs so you have a 144-day yearly schedule versus the 180-day yearly schedule in the 5-day program for read alouds and history books. Since we've offered the 4-day schedule, we've found that some of our customers choose to spread the 4-day program over 5 days.
Though we removed about 20% of the assignments to create the 4-day program, we did not remove 20% of the books scheduled in the 4-day program. We tried to remove the assignments that least impacted the overall foundation of the program, so you may read less of a book in the 4-day program than in the 5-day program. However, in some cases, we have removed books from the 5-day program to create the 4-day program.
Most of our Instructor's Guides come with both 4-day and 5-day schedules, so if you buy the 5-day program, you can still do the 4-day schedule if you find the 5-day schedule is at too heavy a pace. However, our high school programs are available only in 5 day programs. You can read more about our high school materials on our website (http://www.sonlight.com/high-school.html). Also, our elementary Language Arts programs are scheduled for 4 days with an optional fifth day assignment. All reader packages are offered in 5 day only format, as we believe all young readers should be reading every day.
