  • Week 1 - Bible memorization assignment missing content. Updated assignment has been posted to the Curriculum Updates page. (5.14.14)
  • Week 18, Day 4 - Creative Expression assignment "Revise the Book Review" directs customers to have their children post their book review on our website. Since that function is no longer available, we created a Curriculum Update that suggests they either skip the assignment, post it on our Student Recognition Forum, or send it to [email protected] (5.6.14)
  • Week 10 - IG refers student to IG links page for web URL for origami projects. Link is missing from our IG links page. Should be: http://www.origami-instructions.com/origami-crane.html (1.31.14)
  • Eastern Hemisphere Notebook - map of China (p. 7). Hainan Island should be included in the outline. Mongolia should not be outlined with a broader border. Both corrections will be made for next print run. (9.19.13)

Language Arts - Language Arts F is no longer available as a separate subject. It is integrated directly into the Core F IG.

EHE/2014 World Book discrepancies (11/19/14)

  • Week 2/Day 1 - "Civil service" (Timeline suggestion) should be in the reading for Week 3/Day 1 instead.
  • Week 3/Day 1
    • "Chang Ch'ien" (Timeline suggestion) is not mentioned in World Book
    • "Hsuan-Tsang" (Timeline suggestion) is not mentioned in World Book
  • Week 3/Day 2
    • "Sino-Japanese War" (Timeline figure) is mentioned in the reading but not named as such. It has to be searched for beyond the reading to be found by that name.
    • "Cheng Ho" (Timeline suggestion) is not mentioned in the reading and will not come up in a search unless the version "Zheng He" is used.
  • Week 3/Day 3 - "Opium War" (Timeline suggestion) should be in the reading for Week 3/Day 2 instead
  • Week 3/Day 4 - "Eric Liddell" (Timeline figure) is not mentioned in the World Book
  • Week 7/Day 1 - The note about searching for North and South Korea is no longer needed in the new World Book format
  • Week 11/Day 5 - The Distance Calculator is not in the latest version of World Book
  • Week 15/Day 4 - "Magellan" (Timeline figure) is not in the reading. He can be searched for.
  • Week 22/Day 3 - "Hanno" (Timeline suggestion) is not mentioned in World Book

Distance Calculator - World Book 2014

Apparently the 2014 World Book does not have a Distance Calculator. Suggest that the customer use http://distancecalculator.globefeed.com/Country_Distance_Calculator.asp (11.14.14)

  • World Book Encyclopedia new edition - In this new edition, the article Sanskrit that is assigned in Week 20 Day 5, is now Sanskrit language. You can also find additional information in the article, India, languages of. (7.16.14)

China Kit Instructions Email (10.9.13)

A number of customers received Core F China Kits without the instruction sheet. The China Kit manual is available for download on the Curriculum Updates page for Core F. We have emailed all customers who purchased Core F and/or the China Kit since 4/1/13 to alert them to where they may find the manual pdf if it wasn't included in their kit.

2013 EHE Notebook Pages (05.02.13)

The whole EHE was reworked this year so that it doesn't need an answer key of any type. About 98% of the questions are open-ended. For the other 2%, the specific answers are in the teaching notes. Thus, it will work with different editions of World Book.

2012 China Kit (5.16.12)

We have updated the China kit for the 2012 Core F package. It is now a 5-day only product. It includes:

NOTE: We have removed the book Ancient China book and the pages of circles for the game Piaji. We have added the content from the booklet of activities which we made last year, to the Core F Instructor's Guide.

Rice Paper (4.13.15)

Because someone actually asked, I went back in the warehouse to find out how many sheets of rice paper are in the China Kit. The answer is 8, in case anyone else ever asks. -KC

2011 World Book on Mac - Distance Calculator (3.13.12)

Customer report: I FINALLY found the distance calculator by being IN the Atlas and then going to the top menu of my MAC (File, Edit, etc.) to Tools. Selected Tools and in the drop down, selected Atlas. The calculator popped up.
OR
Customer report: My son found it by putting the disc back in (we have it loaded it on the kids computer) and opening it again he looked through the World Book User Guide. Double click on that and go through the sidebar until you see World Book Atlas. NOTE: this is different from "Atlas" which is inside the World Book Encyclopedia and what we've been looking through because of the "Atlas" button that looks so friendly and with which we are so frustrated.

The second paragraph is titled "Launching World Book Atlas" and it says "To launch World Book Atlas, double-click on the World Book Atlas Application Icon. The Application is located in the 2011 World Book Folder inside the Applications Folder."

It looks like you either need to go to the folder to open it every time you want to use the World Book Atlas. OR you can (on a Mac) drag the World Book Atlas Icon from the folder to your dock. The friendly looking Atlas icon inside the World Book Encyclopedia doesn't take you to this program--it is completely separate. It just has a lot of the same features.

World Book Tech Issue - DVD region free? (12.30.11)

The World Book DVD is computer software and thus is not affected by DVD regions. It will play on any computer that has the appropriate hardware/software (per MacKiev).

World Book Tech Issue - Mac users running Lion (10.24.11)

  • MacKiev has an update available for download from their site (http://www.mackiev.com/) for users running the new Lion OS on their Mac.

World Book Tech Issues (9.28.10)

  • After speaking with MacKiev (tech support), they have agreed to give Sonlight customers priority when contacting them about World Book issues.
  • Direct customers to http://www.mackiev.com
  • Tell them to follow the links to "support"
  • Choose the World Book icon ... click on the edition you need help with (Mac or Windows) and fill out the form that pops up.
  • MacKiev software team will get back to the customer within 24 hours

The main reason for many complaints that the World Book DVD doesn't work, is the problem with accessing the World Book downloads folder after downloading updates. The system did not allow access to several temporary files without all the necessary administrator permissions.
To solve this, the Downloads folder has to be removed. MacKiev has created a small application that looks for the appropriate folders and removes them: http://softwaremackiev.com/downloads/worldbook/WBWinUpdater.zip

Is EHE still part of Core F? (updated 5.14.12)

While there is no longer an EHE product as part of our 2012 Core F program, many of the best components of that product have been integrated into our Core F Instructor’s Guide. Your students will find compelling research assignments which utilize both the World Book Encyclopedia as well as the Internet. There are also relevant hands-on activities related to various countries and cultures being studied. There will be consumable, lapbook type activity sheets included in the Core F IG.

EHE Student Activity Sheets

We will offer consumable activity sheets from the past two years (2010 and 2011). Customers can still order the EHE activity sheets online. Just include a note in the comment section stating which edition is needed. (2012)
