2013 Core G IG 3-week sample

2014 Core G IG Errors:

  • Week 18 - Day 1 Mechanics Practice ... answers are incorrect. Corrected page is available on the Curriculum Updates page. (5.7.15)
  • Week 29 - Activity Sheet contains incorrect information for the Day 3 and 4 Creative Expression assignments. Corrected page is available on the Curriculum Updates page. (4.7.15)
  • Week 21 - Information missing in LA Week 21 Creative Expression. Updated IG page available on Curriculum Updates page. (4.1.15)
  • Week 36 - Schedule, notes, and Activity Sheets - The creative writing assignment title was in correct on the schedule page, the title in the notes were a different title, and the Activity Sheets had a completely different assignment. The correction has an updated schedule page, corrected notes for updated writing assignments, and all Activity Sheets that would replace the original set. (Mailed update to customers - 1.15.15)
  • Week 30 - Student Activity Sheets - Similar error to week 13 ... the arrows on the pages were in the wrong order. These have been corrected. (Mailed update to customers - 1.15.15)
  • Week 21 - Schedule, notes, and Activity Sheet - The title of the B assignment on the Schedule Page, within the notes, and on the Activity Sheets were incorrect. The correction changes them in all three areas to reflect the correct title. (Mailed update to customers - 1.15.15)
  • Week 13 - Student Activity Sheets - the order of some tables we provide are in the wrong locations. The update has a new order for the Activity Sheets/tables. (Mailed update to customers - 1.15.15)
  • Week 17, Day 4 - Notes: Updated text to reflect the correct content for the creative writing assignments. (Mailed update to customers - 1.15.15)
  • Week 12, Day 3 - Notes: We’ve expanded the directions in the IG notes to have students write their first drafts on Day 3. This was not included in the original set of directions. (Mailed update to customers - 1.15.15)
  • Week 15, Day 3 - Creative Expression assignment "The Book Review" instructs customers to help their children post a book review on our website. Since that function is no longer available, we have created a Curriculum Update which suggests that they either skip the assignment, post it on our Student Recognition Forum, or send it to [email protected] (5.6.14)

Language Arts - Language Arts G is no longer available as a separate subject. It is integrated directly into the Core G IG.
LA Changes in 2014 from 2013 - assignments from [2013] Week 32-35 have been moved to Week 21-24 in 2014 and vice versa. Week 36 assignment from 2013 has been moved to week 29 in 2014. [10.07.14]

Book defects, backorders, edition changes, etc.

  • Catherine, Called Birdy - new edition. New page numbers. Updated schedule information provided on Curriculum Updates page. (5.14.14)

CGC Update (1.15.15)

See list of Core IG errors above. A collection of errors in writing assignments necessitated a rather large correction. This was not posted to the Curriculum Updates page because of the size of the correction. The overall methodology behind creating this correction, was to have the customer replace their existing pages with the content that we have provided. Instead of providing full weeks and Activity Sheets of 6 different weeks (it could’ve been a 60 page correction, at that point), we created something that only highlighted what should be replaced.

Usborne Encyclopedia of World History (2013)

Usborne has updated this book for us under the new title Usborne Encyclopedia 12,000 Years of World History. The revision removed the first 100 pages (evolutionary content), and updates the cover. The rest of the content has not changed.

  • UPDATE: If a customer wants to use the older edition encyclopedia with their 2013 Core G IG, there is an adjusted schedule available on the Curriculum Updates page. (8.19.13)
  • Internet Links The original title is an Internet Linked book. Our version is also internet linked. Since Usborne does not sell the 12,000 year title, it is not found on their quicklinks website. Customers can select the original title Usborne Encyclopedia of World History and find the links there. They will need to add "94" to the page numbers in their book. (9.19.14)

Beyond the Desert Gate (10.25.12)

Customers are questioning why we schedule Beyond the Desert Gate in Week 8, and Ides of April in Week 14, when Desert Gate is listed as a sequel to Ides.
Beyond the Desert Gate is a Read-Aloud (read *to* the student) and Ideas of April is a Reader (read *by* the student). Each title is correctly assigned in the appropriate time frame.
In Core G we are covering from the beginning of time to the Elizabethan Era, so the scheduled books will highlight the time era. In the Read-Alouds, we first read Golden Goblet (1486-1349 BC), then God King (701 BC), and then Beyond the Dessert Gate (70 AD). Because Read-Alouds take longer to work through, they need to cover longer sections of time.
In the Readers, students are reading a progression of titles from Mara (1458 BC), to Hittite Warrior (1200 BC), to Greek Myths (500-300 BC), to Theras and His Town (400 BC), to Archemides (287-212 BC), to Roman Ransom (52 BC), to Ides of April (62 AD).

Bible Notes for Core G (6.22.12)

In Cores F and G the IG Bible notes have separate notes for Parents and Students. This is a decision Sarita made based on the fact that there are Bible readings that children will read on their own at these two levels, as well as Bible readings the parent will read with the children. Not all the new Bible levels take this approach because not all of them have separate readings for the child, and for the parent and child to read together.
In the Core F IG we do include an assignment for Student Bible Reading on one line and Parent and Student Reading on another. This delineation was missed in the Core G IG.
So ... here is the solution that is currently underway ...
Since we need to explain to customers specifically how to use the Core G Bible program ... we will. . .

  • 1. Post a correction to the Curriculum Updates page
  • 2.Send out an email to customers who have already purchased the Core G IG
  • 3.And send out a printed letter that will be included with all new Core G packages leaving the warehouse

Here is the instruction we will be providing ...
On your weekly Schedule pages, under the Bible section, have your children read The International Children's Bible Field Guide on their own. When it's time to read the actual Bible passages in the Schedule, please read those selections aloud to your children.
There are many helpful Bible-related Notes each week after your Schedule pages. Some of these Notes are intended specifically for your children, while some are for you. These Bible Notes are marked in the Instructor's Guide as either "Parents" or "Students."

Master Cornhill - Why in Core G and not Core H? (6.27.12)

This book is set in a time period more appropriate to be covered in Core H, yet it is included in Core G. Per Sarita ... This was a choice I made. Because there were two great plagues (and this book highlights the later of the two), I felt it was close enough time-wise to carry the weight of both plagues--to give kids the sense of how life was during those experiences.
