What makes a great assistant?
- It is best if it is someone you know and have seen in various situations.
- Decide whether you want several part-time or fewer full-time assistants.
- Be ready to make your needs known:
- Able to work for long hours - make sure they understand it is on your feet ALL day for "X" number of days.
- Understands you are trying to sell the curriculum, not offer the library to everyone
- An outgoing person - they will have to engage strangers.
- Someone who has used most parts of Sonlight - definitely the Core, hopefully Science and Language Arts. What else have they used? (Ask this - don't assume!)
- Enthusiastic
- Complements your weaker areas - having used programs you have not used.
- Contact Sonlight about a prospective assistant's buying history. If they have purchased very little, then they won't represent Sonlight as a purchaser. Verify their use of Sonlight (they must be familiar with the IG) and find out if they are modifying it and how.
- The goal would be to find someone that you can use year after year, or for multiple events. One well-trained assistant can take the place of several mediocre assistants.
- Keep your needs for assistant staffing in mind as you interact with veteran Sonlight users in your booth - you may find a good assistant in this way.
