Update 8.28.07 - Final (hopefully) statement on CD Vista compatibility. This title is not compatible with VISTA at this time. I am able to install 20th Century Day by Day on VISTA, but when I go to run I receive the Sound Decompression error message and we do not have a patch for this message on VISTA. GSPNA Tech Support
Web site being updated today to reflect this information.

Update 8.24.07 - CD tested in-house on Vista system and installed successfully. Here is the instruction we are sending customers:

20th Century Day by Day CD Software Installation

(Note: The maximum size of this CD screen is 7” x 5”.)

If you are using Windows XP or Vista, you may experience some difficulties trying to use this software. Here is what you may encounter: When you insert the 20th Century Day by Day CD into your PC drive, the installation program will attempt to run automatically. In some cases, this will not work and the software will not install. To solve this problem, go to My Computer and right click on the CD drive. Select open and run the XP setup file instead.

We are also aware that Windows XP security updates may cause a sound decompression error. If you receive this error, you may download the XP patch at the DK website http://www.learnatglobal.com/html/xp_sound.html.

For any other errors you may encounter, including font errors, please contact the DK technical support at [email protected] . Include in your email: • The software title and version • Your exact error message (click on the details button for the complete error) • Your operating system (Windows/Mac + version) • Any extra PC information as available • Your best description of the problem

We will include a copy of the instruction above with each CD.

Screen Size (8.17.07) - some customers may be concerned their CD is working incorrectly. Screen size for this product is only 7" x 5".

Book is NO LONGER available 8.16.07

20th Century Day by Day CD Rom This CD is NOT Vista compatible. To run the CD on Windows XP you need to add a patch: http://www.learnatglobal.com/html/xp_sound.html. Have the customer download it and run it and the CD should then run fine.

Update 8.13.07 Customers are experiencing one of three installation issues with the 20th Century Day by Day CD-ROM:

  1. Customers who experience an error describing a problem with "sound decompression software" can donwload and install a patch found on the DK web site (as noted above).
  2. Customers who experience a complete failure in getting the software to load at all should be provided with the following instruction: When you put the 20th Century CD in the drive, it will automatically run the install program. Instead of using that, right click on your CD drive in My Computer and select Open. Run the XP Setup File.
  3. Customers who experience an error with loading specific fonts will need to email Global Software Publishing Tech Support at [email protected] directly. Our vendor offers free lifetime support for this product. Tech support issues are resolved by email unless their tech determines a phone call is necessary to resolve the issue. When customer emails, they should be able to tell the tech details of the error and their operating system.

Note: We will be posting this information online as well as sending to customers who purchase the CD.

Using CD-Rom 7.31.07

Week 1 Day 1 Assignment lists READING p. 4-5 . Page 4-5 IN THE BOOK is a two page layout that gives explanations about 10 paintings in the BOOK. Those paintings are not on the CD. In the book...the 10 paintings are on the 2 pages prior to the decade it introduces. For example : 1900-1909, 1910-1919, and so on. This info is NOT on the CD.

Customers who use the CD just need to ignore that entry. It was a typo...Sonlight forgot to omit it when they changed over to the CD.

In addition, there may be some articles that the IG study guide refers to, that are in the NEWS EXTRA section of the CD - [bottom right of the screen on the CD - yellow box - clickable links].

20th Century Day by Day 10.1.05

Sonlight, I have two questions about a book that is in my son's 20th Century History. Can you explain the notations at the end of many of the days information in the 20th Century day by day. As an example page 10, #1. Washington: Hawaii asks for delegate at Republican national convention(--> 4,30). What do the parenthesis contents mean?

It took me a while to figure it out because there is no legend. But what the arrow and following number indicate is the next date that subject is brought up again. If it has ---> 30 would mean look at the 30th of the same month you are in. If it is ---> 4/30 you would look at April 30th of the same year you are in. If it is a different year, the number will be followed by a year also, i.e. ---> 4/30/ 05
