Moving from Version 2 to Version 3
Rosetta Stone does recommend that those who are moving from any Version 2 level will want to begin with Level 1 of Version 3. The content has changed sufficiently enough that moving from a level in Version 2 to the next level in Version 3 would be problematic. (6.8.11)
Awarding Credits for Version 3 Rosetta Stone
Rosetta Stone does not provide "credit" recommendations any longer. One level = one year of study. "Self-paced, self-study program, so it will vary greatly by student and it wasn’t built for any specific age or grade level. Full Year curriculum built for up to a one year course for each level and a schedule in the Parents Guide contains a 45 week plan through each level of Rosetta Stone.
Can Rosetta be used by age...?
Rosetta can be used as soon as a child can move a mouse and click on pictures. Just as a baby learns to speak their native language, using Rosetta the child can listen to the narrator and click on the picture. Most certainly the program can be used once a child recognizes letters on a keyboard, as they can begin using the level that allows them to see the text at the same time the narrator speaks. Rosetta recommends holding off on the writing portion (where the student types out sentences dictated to them) until they are older or with older students until they are several lessons along, just like we hold off on learning to write until we have mastered the spoken language.
Usable by students age 6+; as soon as they are able to recognize letters on a keyboard they can use Rosetta.
Compare Rosetta with Power Glide
They are "comparable in content", but the "huge difference" is that Rosetta Stone is interactive. Sonlight desires to provide our customer the products that best fit our curriculum and our customer's learning needs. At one time we did carry the Power Glide program, but have since decided to use Rosetta Stone because we feel it is a better, more thorough and complete program, and it provides an interesting and fun way to learn a foreign language.
