Science 6 Tops book for overseas clients

"Two of our kids are doing Science 6 this year and are now working through the TOPS book, "Analysis". Beginning with Card 12 (and continuing through card 16), they need indicator made from red cabbage. I've never seen red cabbage in this part of China. I looked for cabbage a few years ago for an earlier experiment and checked a very large and complete market again today. Lots of kinds of cabbages, none of them red. I biked to a nearby town and asked in the largest pharmacy for bottled indicator like one might order to use in a Chemistry Lab. The pharmacists seemed to know what I meant but didn't have it. They felt it wouldn't be for sale anywhere in our county. We're disappointed that 5 of the 16 experiments in this book require red cabbage. Any ideas? I'm thinking someone else out there has probably run into this problem and you might know a solution."

If she can get ahold of grape juice, that should work. The colors will probably be a bit different, but there should be a color change. She can test for a color change first by adding the grape juice to some diluted ammonia and then adding a lot of vinegar to that solution. There should be a color change. [comments from Apologia]
