Science Bio - Isaac Newton and the Laws of Motion (KS05)

Science K IG Errors

  • Section One - pg 5. Phone number for The Earth's Birthday Project is incorrect. Direct customers to their web site for contact info (http://www.earthsbirthday.org/) (11.3.09)
  • Week 3 - Only part of the book Weather is scheduled. The entire book should be scheduled. Encourage folks to just finish the book at their own pace. Corrected for next print run. (10.15.09)
  • Week 6 - Student Activity Sheet question #2 ... answer key says that in North American, grasslands are called plains. Book says the answer should be prairies, which is not an option. (9.29.09)
  • Week 7 - The assignment for Discover & Do listed on Day 5 is an error. There should be no assignment for the DVD on Day 5. For Week 7 there is only one assignment for D&D, which is on Day 4. (10.6.09)

Science K Additional Info (Week 13, Weeks 15-22)

(this has been added for our next print run)
This year your children will be studying butterflies in Week 13 and Weeks 15–22 (5-Day). However, if you plan to order the caterpillars, you may wish to reschedule your study of butterflies to better fit your seasonal situation. In order for the butterflies to survive after their release, the average daily temperature must be 55 degrees Fahrenheit. (5.5.09)

The Usborne Internet-Linked Children's Encyclopedia
This new title replaces the old Children's Encyclopedia. It is a brand new book with updated content and different page numbering. It will not work with a pre-2009 Science K IG, nor will the older title work with the 2009 Science K IG. We chose the "mini" version of this title on purpose. There is a tremendous cost savings over the larger sized volume. Also note to the customers that it is a much better product than previous "mini" versions as the print is very clear and quite readable.

Some feedback on evolution in Children's Encyclopedia (8.09)

  • From Robert at SL
    • Sonlight presents various perspectives on the age of the earth and evolution, while upholding God as Creator and Designer. Yes, as others have noted there are a variety of positions on these issues such as non-theistic evolution (naturalism), theistic evolution, young earth creationism, and old earth creationism.
    • We try to offer balanced perspectives via our IG Notes, but are not specifically championing any particular approach to the age of the earth. As such, you will find books in our curricula that make mention of millions or billions of years, but you will also find books that mention a young earth and thousands of years. In either case we seek to balance these perspectives via our Notes and, of course, by leaving specifics to parents to discuss with their children.
    • We are always eager to hear from customers and to improve our curricula on the basis of your suggestions and comments, so please do feel free to voice any concerns, provide comments, and offer suggestions.
  • From Judy https://www.sonlight-forums.com/showpost.php?p=2987581&postcount=10
    • What an awesome opportunity you had today ... to spend an hour reading the creation story and discussing with your children. You have planted a seed which you may now water every time this topic comes up. And speaking from personal experience ... I suspect you'll be pleasantly surprised at just how much discernment in this area your young children will develop.
