Mac Issues Running Apologia CD

Customer feedback ... apparently, in order to run the CD on a Mac, you have to download Flip4Mac (free download). If the videos "freeze", then push the "control" and "mouse" buttons (much like right-clicking on a PC), then push "Play". (11.3.10)

Apologia packages - 2010 catalog

Our Apologia packages will change for the 2010 catalog. Each will include the following:

  • Appropriate "Schedule Plus" product
  • Appropriate CD-ROM version of the course (is Windows 7 compatible)
  • Appropriate CD-ROM for Study Guides and Tests. Materials on this CD may be printed out for parent and teacher.
  • Appropriate science supply kit

The main CD-ROM includes the text, multimedia add-ons and video animations as well as word pronunciations. It does not read the book to you nor does it grade the test. The parent may log on and grade the test. The Study Guide/Test CD-ROM includes study guides and tests for every module in the course, and the answers are provided as well. This affects the following packages: 7S0B, 150-05, 250-05, 350-05, 450-05, and 550-05.
NOTE: We will no longer include the multimedia CD as it is part of the course CD. We *will* continue to carry the text as a stand-alone product. (2.16.10)

Apologia 2nd Edition

All Apologia Sciences we carry are now 2nd edition. Our Schedule Plus products are designed to be used with the 2nd edition textbooks. We strongly recommend that in a co-op setting, all students use the same edition, as there is significant difference between the 1st and 2nd editions. (8.5.09)

Apologia Quarterly Tests

In the newer editions of Apologia Science levels Dr. Wile has included quarterly tests in addition to the regular end-of-module tests. Why do we not schedule them in Sonlight's Schedule Plus?
While we do feel that the quarterly tests are a useful evaluation tool, we don't feel they are "required". Certainly the end-of-module study guide questions and tests are sufficient to determine your student's understanding of the material. If you are concerned about long-term retention, you may find the quarterly tests to be helpful. (10.25.07)

Correlating Schedule Plus with Apologia on CD-ROM (12.4.08)
People who would like some guidance with coordination between the book itself and the CD ROM can go to the Readme file on their disk. There is a copy of the book's Table of Contents. It is not detailed in that the On Your Owns are not listed, but they should have some idea of where they are.

Some customers have said there are discrepancies between the book and CD for chapter numbers and On Your Owns. They should be the same. Sometimes the On Your Owns that were scheduled in the Schedule Plus were split on different pages, so possibly the user didn't look far enough. Also, there is still the issue of whether they were both the same edition. The cover picture of the 2nd edition book should match the cover picture on the CD ROM case and/or the CD itself.

Tech issues with Apologia on CD-ROM (12.4.08)
According to Apologia, it seems that Vista on some types of computers (DELL, hp, etc.) have problems. They said that Microsoft is working on a patch, but it is not ready yet. He (his name is Jonathan) asked that anyone who is having trouble be referred to the Apologia tech support so he/they can determine if there are other problems and work through them with the customers. The good news is once I got the book on my desktop, I am having no trouble working through the book itself now (with the exception of pronunciations). The tech phone number is in the CD case in large print for those who need to call them. Customers can also email tech support. 888-524-4724 (toll free) or [email protected]. They are very prompt in handling email and calls.

Tech Issues with Apologia Exploring With Creation CDs

According to Apologia, some computer systems (usually Dell or systems running MS Office) have an unusual system setting which makes them unable to run the Apologia multimedia CDs. Apologia's recommendation is that the customer contact Dell, or tech support for their computer manufacturer, in order to remedy this situation. This is a rare occurrence, but it does happen.(9.25.07)

Full Course CDs 4.30.08

We do carry all the full course CDs:

  • 150-21 = Physical Science, Full Course CD
  • 250-21 = Biology (2nd edition), Full Course CD
  • 350-21 = Chemistry (2nd edition), Full Course CD
  • 450-21 = Physics (2nd edition), Full Course CD

Apologia Book Extras 11.26.07

In the introductory material of the student text (2nd edition of Biology- page v- and Chemistry - page ii) you will find a website and password for book extras. The links provide additional information on topics in the text, potential careers in the field, and more.

Apologia CD's 7.25.07

Multimedia CD's and full text CD's can be used with Mac, but Apologia does not offer technical support for this product on the Macintosh or Linux platforms. However, this product should work on Mac OS X or virtual PC 5.0.

All Apologia software IS compatible with Windows Vista. [updated 8.21.07]

Science Schedules

Inquisicorp is the publisher of the schedules. They are NOT covered by the Love to Learn guarantee unless they are part of a Core Ultra; they are eligible for the 6 month return policy (in resaleable condition) as with any other item not in a core package or a Sonlight IG. These are NOT Sonlight IG's!

Why do the Science Schedules not use the quarterly tests? [11.05]

Apologia Quarterly Tests In the newer editions of Apologia Science levels Dr.

Since there are already 16 tests in a year, to schedule the study time for a quarterly test would have taken away some of the extra time given for some of the harder modules. His first edition didn't even have quarterly tests. If people would like to add that in, I think they will have to work it in on their own. Either they can make the three week modules only two weeks (i.e. week 9 can be a study week for a quarterly test and do module 5 in weeks 10 and 11; reduce module 6 to weeks 12 and 13, and move module 7 and 8 up a week to get in another quarterly test...and so on. But to add 4 more quarterly tests to 16 is 20 tests in 36 weeks. Seemed a lot. [Sandy Hotz]

CD Rom Book - compatible with Schedule? [11.05]

The 'pages' in the CD are not numbered like the book. Most of the time the schedule will stop at a recognizable place (i.e. On Your Own 1.5 or Experiment 1.2, etc.) so it won't be a problem. For those times when the schedule ends the day with a page number, the customer still can tell when the module will end. So, the schedule will be usable with the CDrom with the customer's minor modification; you just need to look at the topic headings on the left and then match it up on the IG. It takes a bit more work, but I think I'm getting it now. You can get the table of contents off Apologia’s website (from the book), then use it to match page numbers to topic headings in the Science IG.

Apologia Science and Math Correlation 5.27.05

Regarding the need to take Algebra and Apologia Biology in the same year, here is the "official" word ... A year of algebra is a prerequisite for chemistry and so first year Algebra should be taken at the same time as biology in order to be ready for chemistry next. Also, the eduational research that has been done seems to show that when a student is ready for algebra they are mentally ready for the rigors of a high school biology course. The point being that although Apologia does recommend taking Algebra and Biology together, it is *not* because there is any inherent correlation between the two. It is, instead, because of the need for Algebra as a prerequisite for Chemistry.

Copying tests in Apologia products

According to Dr. Wile, customers may copy the tests.

Update 9.19.07 - tests may be copied for use in a family *or* a group setting.
