What's new? (updated 7.1.08)
- New Contextual Formation design gets right into the most practical everyday words and phrases you can begin to use immediately.
- New Adaptive Recall actively tracks your students' progress through each lesson. The program then effectively adapts their review (if they need it) to reinforce strengths and patiently train any problem areas.
- New Milestone Lessons take lesson-and-review up a notch. Pass these "real-life conversation" simulations, and students are ready to move on to the next unit. If they don't quite make it, the Adaptive Recall can help keep their practice time focused on the skills they need to proceed.
- New Student Management System is now stored right on the Main Application disc.
- Workbooks
- The Workbooks for Spanish 1, 2, and 3 Version 3 will be available.
- The other languages French and German do not yet have workbooks available. They will be available in September. (updated 8.20.08)
- Workbooks are the only items they'll be making hard copies of. They are including PDF copies on their supplemental materials CD of workbooks, quizzes, and tests for available languages with each program, and parents can print as many as they like. This will limit the need for printed workbooks, and really only make it valuable to those who really want a printed, bound copy rather than printing their own as needed.
- Supplemental materials will be available for download (at no extra cost) in August 2008. Customers can order at any time and simply download those materials (and print them if they so choose) when they become available.
Three levels instead of two
- Level 1 - Basic conversational skills; greetings and introductions; colors, adjectives, and numbers; prepositions, definite/indefinite articles, and singular/plural nouns; family relations, the five senses, and time of day.
- Level 2 - Directions and transportation; past and future tenses, adverbs, and formal imperatives; school subjects, months of the year, and social dialogues; emotions; sequencing with first/then/finally.
- Level 3 - Household items, physical activity, and animals; possesive pronouns, present subjunctive, present perfect; portions, weights, and measurements; remember/forget, no one/everyone, nothing/everything.
- NOTE: Level 3 is not considered the traveler version. It is much, much more comprehensive than the now discontinued traveler version was. In fact, much of the travel-related content is covered in Level 2, among a lot of other topics. Level 3 is built to be just as robust as Levels 1 and 2.
Can a student move from Level 1 in Version 2 to Level 2 in Version 3 without any difficulty?
No! The two programs/versions are completely different. Changing from Version 2 of Rosetta Stone to Version 3 of Rosetta Stone would be similar to switching from a completely different curriculum to Rosetta Stone. Someone who completed Level 1 in Version 2 would likely benefit from some of the information in Level 1 of Version 3. They would see some content in Level 1/Version 3 they would be familiar with along with a lot of new things, and some in Level 2/Version 3 they'd seen before, but also be exposed to a lot of new content.
