Saxon placement - after 7/6 move to 8/7 or Algebra 1/2?
With the new edition (3rd edition) of the 8/7 materials with pre-Algebra Saxon revised their recommendations to encourage skipping Algebra 1/2. A student should study Saxon 8/7 and if they do well, they can skip Algebra 1/2 and take Algebra 1.

How do the new middle grades textbooks for homeschool compare to the school version of these texts?
The content of these textbooks is comparable, although not identical, to the school product. This series was designed specifically for use in the homeschool environment. Instructional context and the specific wording of problems have been modified slightly, while lesson topics, instructional strategies, and the program's Scope and Sequence remain unchanged.
What comes in the Math 5/4, Math 6/5, Math 7/6, and Math 8/7 kits?
Each of these kits now has 3 components:
- The student textbook (non-consumable, softbound). It contains 120 lessons and 12 investigations in a two-color format.
- The tests and worksheets booklet (consumable). It contains facts practice and activity worksheets for use by one student for one year. Also contains 23 cumulative tests, a testing schedule, and various recording form masters to keep track of the student's progress.
- The solutions manual (non-consumable). It contains step-by-step solutions to each problem in the problem sets, as well as all the test problems. It also contains answers to the Supplemental practice problems and the facts practice problems.
Will the softbound materials hold up to use by several students?
The softbound editions were manufactured so as to withstand several years of normal usage. The binding is sewn, in addition to being glued, which makes it sturdier than standard perfect binding. The only item to replace every year is the Tests and Worksheets booklet.
