I do appreciate your concern over the Frog and Toad books after reading the article in the New Yorker. However, I would like to suggest that many children have read these books since they were first published in the early 1970s, believing that Frog and Toad were no more than good friends. And parents (myself included!) have used the stories to teach kindness and friendship for almost three decades now. I would respectfully disagree that the stories are brainwashing children.
One of the many blessings of homeschooling is the freedom to pick and choose which materials we wish to use. Please do feel free to avoid any titles by Arnold Lobel if you prefer not to have them in your home.
