RevisedAlt6.pdf - This is a copy of the LA6 revisions sent to Alt 6 customers. The file includes the LA6 Table of Contents, Topics & Skills List, Weeks 16-20, 24, 28-29 revisions and Appendix 3 with Extra Dictations. (7.25.06)

Update: We are going to include the Reader Schedule from Core Alt 6 in 6TL. We will include this in the next print run, and will send the schedule to those who have ordered 6TL since April 1st. 7.16.07

Dear Friends,
Back almost a year ago, when we spent time planning our new LA guides, we made the decision to combine the 6 Core and Alt 6 programs into one LA guide. We believe that one program could meet the needs of all sixth graders.
But, as we pushed to get the new 6th grade IG into your hands, we totally forgot about our Alt 6 users. Out of the entire team that worked on this project (writer, type setter, editor, and overview editor), not one of us remembered to double check to make sure we served our Alt 6 students.
When our customer champion reviewed the new IG and noticed the gaps and contacted us, I asked our key writer to rework the three weeks of assignments that use titles that Alt 6 does not carry. She is re-reading titles used in Alt 6 and adjusting the assignments to connect with Alt 6 books.
Another writer compiled the dictations from both 6TLA and Alt 6LA. We will mail those to all 6th grade LA purchasers.
Alt 6 users, please forgive us for “having such a blond moment.” I think you’ll be pleased with the updated assignments.

  • Dictation schedule* has books not included in Alt 6:
    • Weeks 8-10 - Theras and His Town
    • Weeks 16 & 17 - Black Horses for the King
    • Weeks 20 & 21 - The Samurai's Tale is scheduled too early (week 24 in Alt 6)
    • Weeks 28 & 29 - Catherine, Called Birdy
  • Writing Assignments & Activity Sheets* based on books not included in Alt 6:
    • Week 16 - writing assignment and activity sheet are based on Black Horses for the King
    • Week 17 - writing assignment and activity sheet are based on Black Horses for the King
    • Week 18 - writing assignment (Day 3) based on Black Horses for the King
    • Week 20 - writing assignments and activity sheet rely on The Samurai's Tale which isn't scheduled until week 24 in Alt 6
    • Week 28 - writing assignments and activity sheet are based on Catherine, Called Birdy
  • Resolutions:*
    • Dictation issues - Sarita has promised (https://www.sonlight-forums.com/showthread.php?t=83357)we will send a list of (pulled) dictation assignments to all customers who purchased one of our new LA IGs. We are on target for this to happen by her promised date of July 20th.
    • Writing assignment/activity sheet issues - Product Development is working on alternate assignments for those 5-6 weeks where LA6 does not work with Alt 6. We will snail mail these revisions to LA6/Alt 6 purchasers by end of week *and* we will post them on our Curriculum Updates page.

-- 7.5.07 If you speak with a customer who has concerns about LA 6 not working with Alt 6, please reassure them that we are aware of the problem and it will be addressed soon. However, several key people are unavailable this week due to the holiday, so their patience would be appreciated. Let them know someone will get back to them once we have clarified the issue and that Sonlight will resolve any problems. Then reassign the ticket to me with clear notes.

[For your information ONLY - The LA 6 program apparently uses dictation/assignments from books NOT used in Alt 6, although the LA is advertised as being usable by both Core 6 and Alt 6.]

6TL Backorder date changed We are moving the date for 6TL to 06/27/07. We are sending an apology letter with a $10 coupon to all customers that have 6TL on backorder. No longer backordered
