Core 4 2008

2008 Core 4 Packages:

  • Core 4 package (4C5 and 4C4)

4 day Reader Option

  • We will sell and use only the 5-day Reader sets
  • We will tighten the 4 Day reader schedule where the 4 day students will read extra/beyond what the 5 day kids will do. Everyone will read all the Readers. In the Core IG they will cover all the books over 4 days that the 5-day program covers in 5 days (i.e. they will have slightly longer assignments. If there are 100 pages to read in a week the 5 day kids will average 20 pages per day M-F; the 4-day kids will need to average 25 pages per day).
  • All students will read the same books each week; the 4 day students will read the books more quickly.

2008 Core 4 IG Errors:

  • Topics & Skills List - The Bible Reading column still includes Attributes of God which is no longer true since we removed the A to Z book. (8.12.08)
  • Not an error, but a heads up: A Letter to Mrs. Roosevelt is used as a RA in 4 day, History in 5 day. 4.4.08
  • Booklist - incorrectly lists two World War books. The World Wars is actually a bind-up of two volumes. Product Dev. caught the error in time to fix the schedule pages, but missed the book list. This will be corrected for the next print run. (4.13.08)
  • Read-Alouds Study Guide - still includes two books which have been removed from Core 4 (Behind Rebel Lines and Chucaro). (7.7.08)
  • Week 10 - The Monitor and the Merrimac Day 4 assignment should read pp. 20-31 (not pp. 20-21) (2.13.09)
  • Week 14 (4-day schedule) - Read-Aloud Study Guide page numbers for Little Britches should be pp 93-101. (8.6.08)
  • Week 21 - Footnoted link to the Martin Luther King speech is incorrect. It should be: http://www.americanrhetoric.com/speeches/mlkihaveadream.htm. The corrected link will be posted to the curriculum updates page. (4.17.08)
  • History Study Guide (pg 76) - Plans Unravel (pp. 18-19) Question asks: Why did the Germans take Paris, their original target? ... should read: Why did the Germans fail to take Paris, their original target? (1.16.09)

Book defects, backorders, edition changes, etc.

  • Simon Bolivar (4H41) Update 11.26.08 A new version of 4H41 is in the warehouse. This book will NOT be included in Core 4 until the 2009 edition of the IG is released, as it will not line up with the 2008 schedule. The book is available for individual purchase. We have requested a note be placed on the website to clarify this book doesn't line up with current or previous IG's.
    • is out of print and we have no more in the warehouse. We are going to remove it from Core 4 (and adjust pricing) and post a note on the Core 4 page to that effect. Customers should ignore that line in the Weeks 1 and 2 schedules. If customers wish to do the associated map and timeline activities, they can always utilize an encyclopedia to read some information on Simon Bolivar. We will email customers who have this item on backorder. (9.19.08) Email to Simon Bolivar customers.doc
  • Hero Over Here - (4H18) Avyx cover change, content is the same. (7.24.08)
  • In Search of the Source - One cover is mostly green, the other is a color picture of a waterfall. The publisher seems to use either cover interchangeably. (5.21.08)
  • Lincoln: A Photobiography - This year's stock has faulty binding. While we are awaiting replacement stock we will send any customers who report a problem with their book a $9 coupon (cost of the book) instead of replacing the book. If the customer insists on a replacement book, we will send. We are recommending customers hole punch/bind the book to be able to use. (10.5.07 - still accurate as of 9.9.08)

State History

If a customer is looking for a product for teaching state history, please refer them to the 4TL writing research project which is based on the student's state. The research required for this project may be sufficient to provide students with knowledge needed for testing. (3.19.08)
