2nd edition Apologia Chemistry

The 2nd edition is significantly upgraded. We strongly recommend the customer use the 2nd edition. The science schedule will not work with the 1st edition format without potentially significant modification.

Alcohol burner description

Prior to 12/03, the alcohol burner SL was offering as part of the chemistry kit was manual [i.e. you had to blow out the wick and manually pull up the wick]. From 12/03 SL is offering a burner which has a metal turner to turn the wick up. [Apologia mentions turning a metal clip in their instructions. This is the item to which they are referring.]

Fuel for alcohol burner The alcohol burner included in the kit requires denatured alcohol, which can be purchased at a local hardware store. Our Chemistry Supplies Kit (ASK) does not include the fuel necessary to use the alcohol burner. Update 9.24.07 - Denatured alcohol is not included in the Schedule Plus as an item the customer must provide. This will be corrected for the next printing.

Details on Chemistry course Dr. Wile considers his chemistry course an Honors course. I noticed he has changed some of the experiments to include variety. I would definitely say that it would qualify for a lab science. Thankfully, the experiments are also geared for the home environment, which makes it more reasonable to tackle as a homeschooler. Dr. Wile says that Biology and Chemistry are requirements for the AP Biology and AP Chemistry course, so I would not jump into the AP Chemistry course without the foundation of the first chemistry course. Also, Algebra I is a prerequisite for the Chemistry course as it requires a good bit of math to complete the work
