Reason magazine recommendation
Portions of response to client's letter (found at the bottom)
I would also like to thank you for your alert regarding the advertising that Reason Magazine has recently included. We have also noticed their move to adult oriented advertising and John has written to the editors in protest. Your email prompted our Editorial Review Committee to consider whether we could continue to recommend this resource, We will print the following notice in the recommendations section of our 2003 9th Basic Instructors Guide.
Secular Monthly Reason. In the past we recommended Reason Magazine because of its well researched articles that consistently present the case for personal initiative and responsibility (instead of more government programs and control). It has been the most thought-provoking magazine I read and an invaluable resource for upper level students who want to write position papers.
Unfortunately, over the past year they have included very questionable advertising for adult oriented products. Due to the explicit nature of these ads, we are no longer comfortable recommending this magazine. If you would like to pursue this resource in spite of their advertising, write to Reason Magazine, P.O. Box 526, Mt. Morris, IL 61054-7868.
We truly appreciate your taking the time to communicate your thoughts. Suggestions and comments from our loyal customers are invaluable in helping us to continual improve. Thank you!

Subject: magazine recommendation in Sonlight 9 I purchased Sonlight 9 in November and as part of the current events I purchased a subscription to Reason magazine. The magazine was recommended in the appendix section. I just received my first copy this week and I was upset, not at the content, but at the advertisements on two seperate pages for adult sexual aids/toys. One ad was almost a full page ad with "scantily clad" women in compromising positions and the other was a smaller ad on a seperate page. These were not discreet ads within a classified section. You did state Reason was a secular magazine that sometimes discussed adult issues - such as abortion - and I would like my 15yr old to be able to understand and discuss the adult issues that are part of the culture we live in. However, I object to sleazy "soft" pornographic advertisements. I'm suggesting that you redo your recommendation of this magazine with a notification of the ads or drop it altogether as a source of material for current events. +++++++
