Should I repurchase the latest edition? [2.5.08]
Sonlight upgrades their instructor's guides (IG's) each year and we recommend you use the latest edition. Because client input is such a valuable resource for us, you will find that each new Instructor's Guide implements many suggestions we have collected from Sonlight users over the previous year. Our advisor team is happy to provide you with support on the latest edition as well. This chart will give you an overview of changes: http://www.sonlight.com/ig-update-chart.html .
Reasoning behind the repurchase policy
The reason for our repurchase offer is to enable repeat customers to have the latest and greatest IG without paying again for the development costs (just basically the costs to print and ship—and in fact a discounted price for that!). John’s heart for offering repurchase was that clients should only pay full price for their first purchase of any IG.
So the salient point in repurchasing is whether the customer has paid for the information included in an IG. For most levels that is easy. If you bot K or 8th, then you have paid for the contents of K or 8th. You can get upgrades on K or 8th—only.
It is more complicate with 1/2/Alt2 or 3/4/Alt 4 because in buying 1 you are paying for the contents of 1 AND also much of the content in Alt 2. In buying Alt 2 you are buying the content in Alt 2 AND much of the content of 1 & 2. So being generous, as usual, we determined that a client can upgrade to either IG that contains the content that the client purchased. Thus, those buying 1 have purchased content from 1 AND Alt 2, so can upgrade to either. Similarly with 2 for 2 or Alt 2, 3 for 3 or Alt 4, 4 for 4 or Alt 4, Alt 2 for 1 or 2 and Alt 4 for 3 or 4.
Buying 2 does not “earn” an upgrade on 1 because none of the content of 1 was purchased in 2TB. And so on.
I hope this helps for those that can remember the reasoning easier than just the rule.

Why should I upgrade?
A major focus for the Product Development team over the past months has been to review the content of each IG. They have been refining and updating references, coordinating assignments, and adjusting schedules with the goal of improving the flow and ease of use. Sonlight has also incorporated some very exciting innovations--many initiated by client suggestions.
We think you will find the latest edition of our IGs even better than our past editions. As we continue our commitment to continual improvement we rely on you and all of our clients to help us identify and plan for future inprovements.
Sonlight, and especially the Product Development team, really appreciate the time and effort each participant has invested in helping us with this effort.
