Donations of curricula for those in need

Occasionally the suggestion that Sonlight become a "clearing house" of sorts for distributing used SL materials to missionaries comes up. There are usually various approaches to this kind of request, all of them basically boiling down to people feeling that SL should consider acting as a central location for this kind of outreach to missionaries.

After considering the ramifications of such a noble suggestion, we have come up with the following "standard response" for this type of suggestion/request. Please use this when responding to people's requests along these lines.

Sonlight has some very specific goals in mind when we write our curriculum. These are spelled out in depth in our Top Goals article on the website and in the catalog. The means through which we strive to accomplish these goals is through the publishing of a literature-based, history-focused, missions-minded homeschool curriculum. That is our focus, our passion and our over-riding mission.

The desire to provide any type of assistance (i.e. used curriculum) for those in full-time missions work is certainly a worthy and honorable goal and one we applaud . However, at this time, Sonlight is not in a position to take on this type of ministry. We do not have the resources at this time to pursue this type of ministry. We would certainly encourage any and all of our customers who feel led of the Lord to be used in this fashion, however, to search out reputable resources--mission agencies or other parachurch organizations, or their local congregations themselves--that would help them pursue this opportunity.

We thank you for being sensitive to the needs of others, and for desiring to be a part of the solution to those needs. May God bless you richly as you serve His kingdom in this fashion.
