The Chemically Active science experiment "Fast 'Frozen' Crystals" scheduled in Week 13 of the Science G IG (both 4-Day and 5-Day) asks for you to provide an asbestos pad. This pad is to be used between the flame of a gas stove and the custard cup. The goal is to heat up the solution in the custard cup, so you may use a pan of shallow water instead (like a double broiler). (5.2019)

We recently discovered that some of the items in the Science G Supply Kits (item #GSK) are missing labels. This has caused confusion with the various substances and made it difficult to complete the experiments. We apologize for this error and the confusion and frustration it has caused. Below you will find a description for each of the substances so you may identify them in your kit.

  • Science G Supply Kits substances
*Washing Soda (sodium carbonate) – largest bag of white powder
*Manganese Dioxide – small bag of black powder
*Sodium Thiosulfate (sodium hyposulfite or hypo) – small bag filled with larger looking crystals
*Epsom Salts (magnesium sulfate) – small bag with salt looking substance
*Soap Flakes – small bag with white flakes
*Charcoal Sticks – bag with black sticks

As with all chemicals, do not inhale, ingest, or put in contact with your eyes or skin. If contact should occur, rinse with water or seek medical attention. (10.2019)

The main feature Icons of Evolution is 51 minutes long. The extra 24 minutes (in our 75-minute edition) are found in "special features" included on the DVD. We carry the "Special Edition" DVD, which includes that extra 24 minutes of features. Either version is fine to use with Science 6. We happen to offer the longer version because it is more commonly available and offers additional content of interest.

Science G Tops book for overseas clients

TOPS book, "Analysis": Beginning with Card 12 (and continuing through card 16), they need indicator made from red cabbage. If the customer is unable to locate red cabbage, grape juice should work. The colors will probably be a bit different, but there should be a color change. Test for a color change first by adding the grape juice to some diluted ammonia and then adding a lot of vinegar to that solution. There should be a color change.
