Science F Activity Sheets

Science F Extra Activity Sheets - 4-day- these have a different item number than other levels. We could not use FSG41, as FSG4 is the item number for the Science F - Girl's package. Using FSG41 would be confusing because it would seem that the activity sheets were specific to only the girl's package. Thus, for this level only, the 4-day extra activity sheets have the item number FS41. (9.8.17)

Science Bio - The History of Medicine (FS16)

Almost 12

  • After reviewing the current edition of Almost 12, Sonlight has chosen to offer the old version. We do not recommend the content of the new version.

  • Besides the apparent attitude shift--where the new edition, written to the classroom-educated majority, seemed to expect peer pressure to engage in s*xual behavior (an assumption that I would prefer not to make for homeschoolers; not merely nor primarily because of any "sheltering," but because I expect my kids to acquit themselves more as Daniels, "dar[ing] to stand alone"--the really overpowering reason I asked for the right to reprint the old edition has to do with the graphics. I thought the new edition shows much more of the body than is necessary to convey the message the graphic is supposed to depict (for example--I'm not sure you would find this particular picture, but what I am about to describe is equivalent to what I am talking about: when showing the growth of the baby inside the mother, the picture shows not just a "cut-away" view of the mother's lower abdomen with the baby inside, but shows a fully-rendered view of her entire torso . . . on up through her upper chest). Compare that with the more diagrammatic drawings in the "old" edition that we carry. My perspective: "To get the sense of how the baby grows inside, you don't have to show me the details of the mother's br*asts and pub*c hair. . . ."
  • Standard answer for public release: Sonlight asked for permission to reprint the older version because of the graphics. We thought the new edition shows much more of the body than is necessary to convey the message the graphic is supposed to depict. Also we felt that the new book has an attitude shift which is geared toward students that are expected to be sexually active. Graciously, the author, Mr. Taylor, gave permission to us to reprint it.

The Care and Keeping of You: The Body Book for Younger Girls (04.15.15)

The revised Care & Keeping book (2012 edition) is now Book 1 of 2. There is a note on the back that says "Once you understand what's happening, you'll be ready to move on to The Care and Keeping of You 2." The only difference I see as far as content goes is that they left out the 2 pages on eating disorders. They must have written a whole new book for older girls with all different content except for that. -KC
