Dear Customer,
If you've been keeping up with the My Passport to India
project, you know that the last video appeared over a week ago. And you
probably know that this Wednesday (Nov. 17), is the last day to donate
and have Sonlight match your gift dollar-for-dollar, no matter its size.
Up to $167,000.
As of this morning, Mission India has
received $51,097 in donations for this project – not including our
matching grant. How exciting!
I actually don't know whether or not
you've participated in this project because Mission India and Sonlight
don't share specific donor/customer information with each other. But I want to make sure that if
you have any desire to participate, you don't miss Wednesday's deadline.
In fact, if you're ready to give right now, please feel free to click
here to give.
The Wednesday
(November 17) deadline
is simply for the Sonlight matching grant. We will only
match gifts made online through Wednesday or postmarked no later than
Wednesday. Please
don't miss it!
If you did sign up and participate,
and/or if you've given a gift: Thank
you! John and I are both so grateful for your
participation.
If you haven't participated, please
know you are still
welcome to enjoy
this incredible web-based learning experience (all videos
and extra content will remain available on www.MyPassportToIndia.com
through the end of December).
Switching gears slightly, I want to
say something as a result of two short passages of Scripture that have
gripped my mind recently.
One is the story of the widow and her
tiny coins (see Mark 12:42-44 and Luke 21:2-4), and the other is Luke
16:10 where Jesus said, "One who is faithful in a very little is
also faithful in much."
I got thinking the other day that,
while many, many families have done remarkable things to raise funds for
this program—thank you to each one who did!—it is possible that your
family agreed this was to be a children-only project and, perhaps, your
children are so young (I know we have some 3- and 4-year olds
participating!) that they were simply in no position to raise more than a
very small sum—so small that you are thinking, "It's not worth
sending that in! The cost to process the gift is greater than the gift
itself!"
And that's where those Scripture
verses come in. If your children's gifts, no matter what their size, are
from your children's hearts, I want to encourage you to view them the way
Jesus said God does . . . and the way your children do. Though they may seem
insignificant to you, as an adult, the fact that you actually send them in may
mean much to your children not only now, but for life: It may be one of the
"little faithfulnesses" that lead to much bigger faithfulnesses
later on.
And, of course, clearly,
"even" the little gifts mean much to God as well (if we are to
believe what Jesus told us!).
So please: Rejoice in what your
children have given! And cooperate with God in helping to instill
consistent faithfulness into your children.
Along these lines, then, too, while
I'm at it: please know that Mission
India is committed
to the My
Passport to India
project every bit as much as we are for the sake of helping you teach and train your kids in
faithfulness and stewardship. They are no despisers of small gifts!
And what better place to show the
value of even the smallest gift! Just one
dollar will enroll a child in India into a Children's Bible
Club. And if that dollar is given before Wednesday, it will enroll two
kids!
Finally, I wanted to say that, while
our desire at Sonlight in partnering with Mission India has been to give
your family an opportunity to participate in a unique learning and giving
experience, we also wanted to introduce you to a mission organization
that is close to our hearts – one that we think might become close to
your hearts, too – not just for today, but long after My Passport To India
wraps up. We have been supporters for quite some time. We hope you will
join us in a longer-term commitment.
Again, thank you for being part of
the Sonlight community. And if you have participated or will participate
before Wednesday night, thank you for joining with us in this, too.
Blessings to you and yours,
Sarita Holzmann
President
