In stock now: What Good
is Christianity? (a new upper-level course!)

Dear Customer,
Have you heard people complain that
religion only brings division and violence? I believe our culture is
largely misinformed about Christianity's influence in the world.
That's why I am thrilled with the
brand-new upper-level course from Sonlight: What Good is Christianity?

a short clip about the new course

The Purpose: To equip
students with historical truth
This course gives thoughtful Juniors and Seniors knowledge and
perspective to help their faith stay intact in college and beyond. It
prepares them to grapple with challenging ideas as they evaluate the role
of Christianity in society and respond to contemporary criticisms of
Christianity.
The Thesis: Christianity
has brought tangible good
With compelling historical documentation and thought-provoking questions,
the course presents this case: While
the history of the Christian Church does have its low points,
Christianity has had an incredibly positive influence on many aspects of
life.
The Audience: high school
Juniors and Seniors with a thirst to learn
We think this course is a great fit for adults and motivated upper-level
high school students. We want to help you raise children who are able to
think for themselves, reasonably, as they weigh the claims they will
encounter in daily life. Consequently, our goal in this curriculum is not
to force-feed information, but to expose students to a variety of ideas
they are likely to encounter in their Christian walk. We want to provide
relevant insights as they wrestle with challenging ideas.
The Content: 18-weeks of
interdisciplinary study
What Good is
Christianity? is an 18-week (one semester) course that covers
many subject areas including history, worldview, critical thinking and
apologetics.
Students will examine topics such as
how Christianity has influenced democracy, social justice, education,
literature, the fine arts, science, the environment, atheism, charity,
women and slavery.

Seven
carefully-selected resources (6 books and a DVD set) accompany your
Instructor's Guide. Your IG provides all the tools you need for a
cohesive, planned-out study. You'll find a schedule, notes,
assignments, discussion questions, and articles that address
interpretation (hermeneutics) of key Biblical issues that receive a lot
of flack in modern society (e.g., faith and science, warfare).

The Course
Creator: a former atheist, committed Christian and gifted teacher
Robert
Velarde has definitely wrestled through the intellectual side
of faith. He came to Christ years ago and truly knows why he believes.
Now a homeschooling father of four,
Robert works as an author, teacher and a Sonlight curriculum developer.
He has some pretty impressive credentials behind him. He is a
recognized C. S. Lewis scholar and the author of numerous books
published by InterVarsity, NavPress and others. He also helped develop
a successful video series called The Truth Project.

I love what Robert shared recently on
the Sonlight blog:
"My passion is to equip and
educate Christians so they know what they believe and why they believe
it, and are able to understand and articulate their own perspective, as
well as opposing viewpoints." Keep
reading.
And don't miss Robert's most recent blog
post about What Good
is Christianity.
