Two boys reading on a slide

"We're entering our fourth year with Sonlight, and my boys love learning together more and more," writes Janet W of Fairview, TN. "Our boys love their Sonlight books. No matter how much we read to them, they always beg for more. Even with selections I didn't think they'd like, I'll still hear, 'Mommy, don't stop. More!' As an added bonus, even though the boys are almost four years apart, they still enjoy each other's books. This past spring, my 3-year-old would come running whenever he heard us start discussing our science books. 'Mommy, Mommy! Are you reading science? Wait for me!' I love that the whole family—me included—gets excited about what we're learning." Janet took this shot in their backyard on a hot Tennessee morning this summer. Samuel (7) is studying Core C and Science C as Jonathan (3) listens in and explores Sonlight's preschool programs.

Mom reading to children on a boat

"We are a missionary family from Malaysia working with the Moken people on islands off Thailand," writes Cally K of Thailand. Here, Cally is having "a Read-Aloud session with daughters Denalyn and Alyssa on the deck of a Moken Sea Gypsy fishing boat while Moken children excitedly gather round to listen to the story and view the book." Cally says the children appreciate the lavish illustrations of unreached people groups in From Akebu to Zapotec (#BH03, from Core B). This year, Denalyn (10) is studying Core E while Alyssa (6) explores Core A with Grade 1 Readers. As Cally reads, friends Pooh (8) and Yooi (9) peer in while Beam (8) and Thongdi (9) play nearby.

Dad and children by the lake

"My favorite part about Sonlight is watching my kids learn as though it's playtime," writes Christi N of Mishawaka, IN. "Jadon is five, and looking for tadpoles in the water is about the coolest thing he could imagine. Watching him learn without realizing he's doing it is about the coolest thing I could imagine! I was a home schooled child myself and unfortunately I didn't enjoy my experience. It almost kept me from home schooling my own children. But when I found Sonlight and read the list of amazing books, the fun science projects, and the hands-on learning opportunities, I decided this was a new kind of home schooling I could really get excited about. It really is the way I wish I'd been taught!" Christi loves that Sonlight allows her family to incorporate school work into family time. She says it's easy to get her husband to help with fun projects because it's fun for him too. Here, Dad explores Science A with Corban (7) and Jadon (5) as baby Jeuel tags along for the ride. The family is studying Core B in their third year of Sonlight.

Three girls reading

"Sonlight is helping us cultivate loving ambassadors for Christ," writes Tanya of Asia. "Sonlight's stories of world cultures help our children embrace the unique calling God has placed in their lives. The books give honor and credibility to our family's lives and work as oversea gospel workers. Amongst my fellow homeschooling moms, Sonlight is top choice. Through her readings, my preschooler is learning to see beauty and value in the unique qualities of all people. I see it in her actions and hear it in her prayers. The love of God, his world and people is pouring off the book pages directly into our children's hearts. It's such a relief knowing I can trust Sonlight's materials and content to be appropriate and Christ-centered. Being well organized, beautifully illustrated and infectiously fun is just icing on the cake!" Naomi (4) and Keira (2) are exploring Core P4/5 in their first year of homeschooling. They love to share their Sonlight books w! ith local friends such as 5-year-old Jiajia.

I can't wait to see which photo you think is best. Thanks for being an active member of the Sonlight community.

P.S. Ever feel pressure for your kids to excel at everything? What if they are ... rather average? I find lots of homeschool encouragement on the Sonlight Blog, and I especially appreciated Karla's inspiring words in her recent post: Just Average. Check it out!
