Dear Customer,

You've waited so patiently for the new catalog. I just couldn't keep it to myself any longer:

Click here for an electronic version of the 2011 Sonlight catalog.

(Please Note: The new, updated materials in the 2011 catalog will be available to order online starting April 4. In other words, orders placed on or after April 4 will receive 2011 materials. Orders placed before April 4 will receive 2010 materials.)

What's New? (Including the "big change"!)
Before you look at the catalog (if you can restrain yourself for 3 more minutes), I suggest you watch this short video for explanations of some of the changes:

Better labels for Core Programs!
It's true. Many of the Core, Language Arts and Science Programs now have new labels. Some astute moms on the Forums figured out the new names before we even intended to release them! Lotusutol saw a tiny mention of Core F, Eastern Hemisphere, and cracked the code. I'll let her fill you in:

"I think the Cores have been renamed from K-7 to A-H, so that people don't get confused by the 'grade level' numbers. I think the letters would make things less confusing in choosing and combining cores."

She's right. And that's exactly why we changed. As charleysoup points out, Sonlighters have been suggesting this change for a while:

"Now—you gotta love Sonlight. Yes, some of us have been asking for this for a LONG time, and they do pay attention and respond when appropriate."

So why have many customers asked for this change? How does it help you? Watch the "What's New" video and I'll explain further there. In short, using letters removes the grade connotation from the Cores. This helps show that each Core works well for a range of ages and grades.

For example, it's easier to accept that Intro to American History, Year 1 of 2 can be used effectively by a 5th grader if it's called Core D instead of Core 3. Even though Core 3 was always meant to serve a range of ages and grades, that number always got in the way. Moms would feel unnecessarily hesitant to use a program called Core 3 with their fourth or fifth grade students, even though that might be the very best program for them to use. Click here to learn more about this change.

Finding the next Core in your sequence
I know this is a lot to take in. If you've purchased a Core program recently, I'll email again in the next few days to recommend the next Core program in line for you (based on what you've purchased in the past).

In the meantime, check out the new Scope and Sequence charts on pp. 150-151 of the catalog at sonlight.com/ecatalog. Those charts can help you adjust to the new naming system as you determine the next Core, Language Arts and Science programs you might want to consider.

April 4: the first day to order from the new catalog
In the days ahead, please read the new catalog to your heart's content. Then, as soon as the website goes live sometime in the afternoon of Monday, April 4 (if all goes well), you can order your 2011 curriculum.

Until then, the Sonlight website and any order you place will reflect the current products and prices of the 2010 catalog. I'll email you again when the updated website is live.

This exclusive e-catalog link
Since you are a recent Core or Heirloom customer, I wanted you to be among the first to see the 2011 e-catalog. I rejoice that you use Sonlight in your homeschool.

I'll send this link to others soon, but if you want to be the first to share it with friends who may or may not get my next email, go right ahead. I'm sure they'll appreciate the advance copy!

I also want to assure you that a print catalog is still on its way to your mailbox. I trust it will arrive within the next week or two (longer for international mail).
