The improved high
school Instructor's Guides are in stock now
|
Dear {FIRSTNAME Homeschool Friend},
Our warehouse shelves now hold stacks
of user-friendly Instructor's Guides (IGs) for Cores 100, 200, 300, 400
and 530. Many IGs have already left the building on their journey to
homes around the world. If you've been waiting, order your upper-level
Core today!
What changed: Better
Formatting
Sonlight has received a lot of feedback from homeschoolers saying they love
the upper-level Core content, but they wish the IGs were easier to use.
So ... we consulted with customers,
tested new formats and made the format of the upper-level IGs easier to
use! Here are the major changes:
- Each
Core 100-530 now comes with a
complete Parent Guide and a complete Student Guide.
- The
two guides mirror each other exactly and are numbered in the same way. The only
difference is that the Parent Guide provides extra notes about the
books and fills in the answers to the student questions and
assignments.
- It
is now easier to find what you're looking for in the IG.
How this helps you:
You now have more flexibility to use your IG however you prefer. You can
be as involved or "hands-off" in your high schooler's education
as you want. The new IGs are perfectly structured for these three options
and anything in between.
You
can do:
1. Parent-directed
Study: Give your students the Student Guide, keep the Parent
Guide for yourself, and go through each day's work together. Just like a
teacher in school, you can give the assignments, check answers, set the
due-dates and keep the schedule you want.
- Student-directed
Study:
Give your students the Student Guide and keep the Parent Guide for
yourself. But instead of managing your children's work for them, put
them in charge of sticking to the prescribed schedule and
assignments. The Student Guide provides everything they need for
this level of independence. As their "learning coach," you
can use the Parent Guide to check their answers and discuss any
points of interest.
- Full
Independent Study:
Give your students the Student Guide and the Parent Guide. Your
students can work independently from the Student Guide and then
check their answers in the Parent Guide. As their mentor, you can
check their progress and discuss their learning as you see fit.
With any of these styles, you have
tools to discuss the books with your students, whether or not you read
them yourself. The Parent Guide provides extra notes about books and
gives answers to discussion questions and map assignments. Your students
don't see these extra helps or answers unless you want them to.
As always, resources in
the Guides include:
- Full Schedule
- Daily Lesson Plans
- Teaching Helps
- Geography and Time-Line
Activities
- Student Study Guides for
History and Literature, including:
- Extensive
Commentary
- Discovery
Questions
- Literary
Analysis
- Vocabulary
Development
- Full Answers and
Definitions (in the Parent Guide only)
- And much more!
"In
addition to the wonderful stories, Sonlight provides excellent guidance
through the Instructor's Guides. Especially
in the high school levels, the Instructor's Guides never indoctrinate,
but provide solid biblical guidelines for interpreting history and
literature." –Dawne P, July 2010
I trust these updates will help you
get the most from these final homeschool years. Enjoy the ride!
All the best,

article "Why in the World Would You Homeschool High
School?"
P.P.S. I've heard lots of stories
like this and just had to share: "After
having used Sonlight for Kindergarten through 12th grade, my son is a
critical thinker, can have a deep intelligent conversation with anyone,
even with others whose beliefs do not line up with his. He knows what
he believes and WHY! (Thank you Sonlight!)" -Barbara W, July
